My Fall Morning Routine

Good morning, friends! I'm doing something a little different on the blog today and sharing my fall morning routine. First, I have a confession to make: I'm not a morning person. At all! I wouldn't exactly say I'm grumpy in the mornings, but it seriously takes me forever to wake up and feel like a human being. I do my best work at night, so many nights I'm up until midnight or later answering emails, working on blog posts, and getting stuff done. However, I've been trying to change up my routine lately by going to bed earlier and, thus, waking up earlier. Here's what a typical morning working from home looks like for me:

7:15 am: Alarm goes off (& I hit snooze, of course!)

7:30 am: I'm finally awake. I usually lay in bed for five to ten minutes on my phone catching up on emails, social media and reading a short devotional. Since I schedule my blog posts, I use this time to make sure my post went up - & I usually proofread it again.

7:45 am: The first thing I do in the mornings is pour a glass of water and drink it all. If I have fresh lemon in the fridge, I'll squeeze some in. Water is so important to your health, and especially your skin! Next I'll make coffee with my Keurig machine. (Coffee is almost as important to me as water - haha!) I like sweet coffee, so my coffee usually consists of half coffee and half creamer! (Okay not really, but a lot of creamer haha) My favorite creamer for the fall is "french vanilla."

7:50 am: I'm starting to feel alive (thank you, caffeine!) I'm usually starving in the mornings, so after the coffee is made I start on breakfast. I really like having oatmeal in the fall and winter, there's something about it that's so warm and comforting. Lately I'm hooked on this chocolate chip cookie dough oatmeal I found at Target. It's actually amazing and pretty healthy too!

8:00 am: Eat breakfast & plan my day! I love to curl up on the couch with my oatmeal and coffee. I usually turn on Good Morning America (or Kelly and Michael if it's later in the morning) and relax for a few minutes. Then I go through my planner and see what I have coming up for the day and week. This Kate Spade planner is my life saver… it helps me stay organized. In a separate notebook, I write down a list of things that need to get done that day, in order of priority. This helps me set the tone for the day.

8:30 am: At this point, I either head to a workout class (I'm addicted to Pure Barre right now) or I take a shower and get ready for the day. Before I shower, I love turning on music & lighting candles throughout the house. My favorite candle right now is this Pumpkin Spiced Cheesecake from Bath & Body Works.

8:45 am: In the fall and winter, I like to use moisturizing products in the shower because my skin can get really dry. This shower cream is the best for keeping my skin moisturized! If I have extra time in the morning, I'll use this deep conditioning mask on my hair - I mean it when I say this product works wonders! It always leaves my hair softer and visibly shinier. After showering, I use this moisturizer on my face. It is a little pricier than most moisturizers but it's great for sensitive skin! If I'm not taking blog photos that day, I don't wear makeup. I love letting my skin breathe.

9:30/10:00 am: The fun part - getting dressed! I usually lay out clothes on my bed until I find a combination I like. I typically don't plan out my outfits ahead of time, I simply get dressed based on how I'm feeling that morning.

I would love to hear what a typical morning looks like for y'all! Do you eat breakfast first thing? Do you use a miracle product on your skin? Let me know in the comments!

We are only ten days away from Halloween (!!) so I hope you're getting in all of your October traditions. One of our family traditions is to pick out a pumpkin and carve it for Halloween! I still love going to the pumpkin patch as an adult and picking out the perfect pumpkin. I wore this green sweater to pick out a pumpkin yesterday… it's so so soft (I wore it on my recent trip to New England too!) and I love that it's long in the back. Not only does it come in four colors, but it's also less than $50!

This morning I'm headed to go hiking in the mountains with one of my guy friends. We are both in need of some exercise & fresh air! I hope everyone has a wonderful Wednesday :)

Tory Burch Reva flats // Chanel quilted leather bag, similar here

I love big, cozy sweaters in the fall and winter and this one is no exception. It's cable-knit, soft, longer in the back & reasonably priced. It also comes in grey! Since I was headed to a coffee date, I kept my outfit pretty simple with a neutral bag and shoes. I love the cream & tan color scheme going on - neutrals will never go out of style!

Also - I get a lot of questions about these Tory Burch Reva flats. I don't like them as much as the older  version (the old version had a scrunchy back which was more comfortable) and these do take a while to break in. However, I will say that once they're broken in, they're very comfortable! If you want to try them out, definitely size down half a size - they run pretty big.

I hope everyone has a great Thursday!

white long sleeve tee (yes I wear it all the time!) // sweater vest with faux fur
Leith felt floppy hat // similar Chloe bag here& here // Timex tweed watch c/o

The two essentials for the perfect "seventies" look: flared denim & a felt floppy hat! I love pairing the two together, especially with an unexpected pop of faux fur. The sweater vest was actually a purchase from the Shopbop sale last week - even though the sale is over, I would still snag this vest if I were you - it's to die for! I'm wearing an XS, for reference.

I also want to point out this tweed Timex watch I'm wearing in the photos. It's super affordable (less than $50!) and the perfect fall watch - it's a neutral color so it goes with everything. I can also imagine it with a cute, preppy puffer vest! I'm also crushing on a lot of the men's watches (but for myself) because I love the bigger face & the more masculine look!

On another note, the Tory Burch Private Sale started yesterday & is worth checking out. I'm crushing on this wallet… & these Reva flats are my favorite pair.

What is everyone up to this weekend? I'm headed out of town to a football game, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's sunny & crisp outside!

Happy Monday, friends! As you may know, I really love a good poncho for fall. I wore this plaid one one day last week & fell in LOVE with the colors! The best part is that it's less than $40… and you can wear it during the Christmas season as well. I think it would be darling with leggings and over-the-knee boots as well. I'm just a little addicted to booties right now :)

I'm working on some super fun Halloween content today so get ready! Does everyone have their costumes all ready for this upcoming weekend?!

Last-Minute DIY Halloween Costume - Starbucks Cup!

DIY Halloween costume Starbucks Frappuccino

If you're like me, I always procrastinate until the week before Halloween to decide what I'm dressing up as. When looking for ideas, the #basic girl in me was super pumped to come across the idea of a Starbucks Frappuccino costume! It's cute, girly, and come on we all know how much I love Starbucks. After seeing a couple photos on Pinterest, I set out on my own to design a costume that is  both easy & cheap. This entire costume took me less than two hours to make and cost me less than $40.

Most of the items are available at Michael's, except for the beige slip (which I found here). Read on for directions!

Here's what you'll need:
- beige dress or slip (I bought this one for $18 & sized up to a large so that it would hang loose!)
- one paper towel roll
- one foam brush
- acrylic paint (I used Craft Smart acrylic paint in the color "Forest Green")
- hot glue gun
- scissors
- white or ivory felt
- Starbucks logo (the one I used is below - right click to save it to your computer. The dimensions are perfect for printing!)
Starbucks logo

Step One: Paint the paper towel roll with the forest green paint using the foam brush. You'll want to do this first since it will take a little longer to dry. The paper towel roll will become the "straw" of the frappuccino!

Step Two: Print out the Starbucks logo & cut it out. You could attach the paper right to the dress, but I wanted to give it a little more substance. I hot glued the logo to a piece of white felt, then cut out around the logo. Then I hot glued the logo onto the fabric of the dress, right in the center.

Step Three: Cut out eight circles of the white or ivory felt. I made my circles the same size as the Starbucks logo, to make it easy. Fold the circles in half to create "bubbles" (these form the the foam of the frappuccino!). You will have to play around with the circles to get them to look how you want them! I hot glued them together in pairs of two, and then arranged them all together.

Step Four: Attach the white "bubbles" to the dress using your hot glue gun. The bubbles can be pretty flimsy, so I hot glued mine to the spaghetti straps as well.

Step Five: Add a straw! Once your straw is done drying, you can shorten it with scissors and attach it to the inside of the dress using the hot glue gun.

Starbucks costume

Voila! You are now a Starbucks drink. I paired the costume with black tights and pumps, and also created a headband out of leftover white felt. The tights will help keep you warm, since it's often chilly on Halloween night. This costume would also be cute with black booties! Instead of a purse, you could even carry a brown paper Starbucks bag ;)

Fall Makeup

Every fall I make one important change to my makeup routine: I switch over from my summer foundation to a fall foundation. The major difference? One is several shades lighter (haha!). I took the opportunity this year to do a little research, and pick a foundation that was a true match for my skin color and type (I have sensitive/combination skin that gets pretty dry in the winter!). Using Nordstrom's  Foundation Finder, I answered a few questions about my skin type and it recommended Laura Mercier's Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide Foundation. I went into the store to test it out, and it turns out that I'm a new fan! The foundation is medium coverage and very matte, which I LOVE. I hate for my face to get shiny, and this foundation combats it - since it's a liquid foundation, it's pretty moisturizing at the same time. I also ended up buying the Secret Camouflage Concealer to cover up dark spots & acne (my face is pretty clear of the most part, but I do tend to get hormonal acne on my chin). The concealer & foundation combo is a winner in my book!

P.S. If you're looking for a new lipstick/gloss combo, the one I'm wearing is the BOMB and the perfect fall color for many different skin types. I mixed MAC's "pink plaid" lipstick with Dior's "trompe l'oeil" gloss. It creates a beautiful purple/burgundy/pink color!

Hope everyone has a great Thursday :)

Turtleneck Swing Dress

turtleneck swing dress (size up one size!) // faux fur vest

This turtleneck swing dress is my new favorite dress… it's soft, comfortable and pairs well with both scarves and vests! (Heads up - I'm wearing the XS & felt like it was a little too short, so size up one). I am in L-O-V-E with these wedge boots - they are the most comfortable boots I've ever owned. And they really elongate your legs (especially when worn with leggings or black pants). I hardly ever wear black, so this outfit was fun for me. I felt like a different person in black boots, a black vest & hat!

Happy Friday & Halloween Eve, everyone! What are everyone's plans?! I'm having a few people over on Saturday night for drinks & "spooky" snacks. I'm actually not dressing up as a Starbucks frappuccino (from this blog post), I have another outfit in mind. Follow me on snapchat (cmcoving) to see what it is!

Last week I babysat my parents' dog Lilly for the afternoon, and she is such a sweetheart. She has the most human-like facial expressions… and she wanted in on the blog photographs! As for the outfit… I'm always a fan of faux fur vests, and I love them paired with an unexpected color, like Carolina blue. This sweater comes in six different colors & is very long in the back (perfect for leggings). I'm wearing the XS for size reference! You also may have noticed that I wear these jeans over and over. They are so flattering because they act like a contour for your legs - they are highlighted & darkened in all the right places. I highly recommend them!

How was everyone's Halloween weekend? So… My plan was to go as Posh Spice, but my outfit didn't quite turn out like I wanted :/ so I threw something together at the last minute & still had a fun night! And on Sunday… I spent most of the afternoon in pajamas watching Netflix - perfect way to recharge for the week!

If you've followed me for a few years, you already know that my favorite fall combo includes a scarf & booties - you simply can't go wrong. So I'm super excited to partner with Sole Society today to bring you this look! Sole Society has hands down THE best collection of scarves & booties this fall… including the ones featured in this post. These tan booties are my new go-to booties because of how versatile (and comfortable!) they are. And the blanket scarf… I love the color of the plaid, and how soft and cozy it is. You can't see very well from the photos, but I'm also wearing a pair of cute studs from their accessories collection. Definitely check out Sole Society for more cute fall essentials!

I'm not sure what's up with our fall in Charlotte, but it has been wacky to say the least. We'll have two sunny days, then five days in a row of rain and fog. Right now we are in the "rain and fog" stage, which is not very good for my motivation. I want to curl up in bed with a warm drink & a book all day!

I tried the Caramel Apple Spice from Starbucks for the first time a few days ago and WOW. I think it's better than any of their coffees (and that's saying a lot because I love their coffee!). If you are looking for a new fall drink, you MUST try this. It doesn't have caffeine, so it's a great option for the afternoon if caffeine keeps you up like it does me!

Rainy day wear

This navy swing dress is one of my all-time faves. You can wear it a million different ways with different scarves, vest and accessories.

Suitcase contents: Jimmy Choo sparkle heels // similar YSL bag // blanket scarf

Guess what y'all! I'm writing this blog post from a Starbucks in LONDON!! I arrived early this morning (2 a.m. my time, but 7 a.m. London time). My plan was to sleep on the plane, but I was so excited that I couldn't fall asleep. Anyways! I snapped a few photos while I was packing yesterday to show you what I was bringing along with me. Let's start with this Delsey luggage… I ordered it online a few weeks before the trip & after traveling with it, I can honestly say I'm SO impressed with the quality. Not only is it gorgeous, but it's durable, lightweight, has a built-in lock system, AND has the most incredible wheels of any suitcase, ever. I only say that because I have wheeled a lot of suitcases through airports & some of them are very hard to maneuver! But this luggage seems to float on air. If you're worried about it being white, don't be - it has a hard outer shell which can be easily cleaned. I also love this jewelry case for packing my nice jewelry. It has a hard outer shell & a special lining that prevents your jewelry from being tarnished.

As for the actual content of my suitcases, I will tell you that a lot of it is holiday-themed! Most of London is already decorated for Christmas… I'm in heaven right now sipping a hot chocolate from Starbucks & listening to the Christmas music they're playing. :)

I'll be back tomorrow with another London post, in the meantime you can follow along on snapchat, twitter & instagram (my username on all three is @cmcoving!).

Sooo…. if you can't tell from the photos, it is FREEZING in London! And windy, I might add. I was originally planning on wearing this oversized pink sweater with just jeans & heels, but quickly realized that I needed to bundle up even more because of the weather. I am loving faux fur stoles for this winter, and it was the perfect touch to the outfit to keep me warm as well! I love how the whole outfit is pastel colored… the outfit felt like a perfect match for this trendy street in London.

Behind me is Oxford Street - & I am obsessed with it! It's always busy, but I can see why - all of the great stores are located right there. Topshop, H&M, Selfridges and many more. We walked around last night for a while & it is absolutely stunning when it's all lit up (all the Christmas lights are already on!). On another note, the time zone change has my body really messed up - my friend Emily and I slept most of the day yesterday! When we are up in London, everyone else is asleep in the United States. It's really weird to get used to!

On another note, I want to take this time to say that Paris has been in my thoughts and prayers since the attacks on Friday. Many of you know that I was there the morning of the attacks. Emily & I missed our train leaving Paris that morning, and were debating staying another night and buying a train ticket back the next day (Saturday) since it was cheaper. Thankfully, God was looking out for us when we made the decision to leave that day to return to London. Once we got back & our phones finally connected to wifi, we learned what had happened and were honestly devastated. I couldn't believe that the city where we had been just a few hours before was the target of such inhumane, cruel acts. I won't say too much more - but it has been amazing to see the support for Paris and unification of people around the world. Sometimes God does His best work during impossible situations.

Thank you also to everyone who checked in on us on Friday and over the weekend… your comments, tweets & emails made me feel so lucky and blessed to have you.
